http://standupconnection.com SATURDAY (7/10), ARISTA/NASHVILLE star BRAD PAISLEY headlined AQUAPALOOZA 2010 at THE RESERVE at LAKE TRAVIS near AUSTIN, TX. According to local officials, there were 65,000 to 70,000 fans and over 7,000 boats for the concert, breaking all previous attendance records and nearly doubling last year’s record setting event. Boats started arriving on MONDAY (7/5) for prime positioning for the concert. The event was hosted by SEA RAY BOATS and local dealer SAIL & SKI CENTER. PAISLEY played the two-hour concert on a stage at water’s edge, for fans that could only access the show by boat and some got closer to the stage with inner-tubes, blow-up boats, surf boards and other flotation devices. With a 100-foot thrust perched on floats, PAISLEY was able to walk out into the midst of thousands of fans on water.
AquaPalooza is a multi-location boating festival, sponsored by Sea Ray boats. It is promoted as “The World’s Largest Boat Party” and claims to attract over 12,000 boats to 100 locations mostly around the United States, but also in several international locations.
Paddle boards were seen at AquaPalooza a lot because of SUP ATX and the fact that there was a ton of drinking going on and I am sure not everyone got out of the water to use the bathroom when they needed to go. Being on top of a SUP would be less toxic for sure.
I have to think that one of the reasons that SUP (Standup Paddle Boarding) is growing so fast is that you can be mobile on top of the water in almost any situation. If you are looking to paddle around or you are looking to go to extremes by surfing or getting pulled behind a boat and everything in between. As long as you take a couple of lessons you can be up and playing around in less than an hour.

Zareef is 7 years old. He is snow boarding on the BLUE slopes (more difficult) 10500 ft high in Snowbowl, Flagstaff, AZ. The only next higher slopes are the BLACK DIAMONDS (most difficult). He is going up on Agassiz-Triple Chairlift (6450 ft long/1981 ft vertical rise) and getting off on Midway-Catway and/or the Ridgeway (Blue) Slopes and ultimately coming down Round Up slope close to the Agassiz Lodge (For Intermediate Boarders). Zareef’s dad is recording the videos while snow boarding himself & keeping balance!

Fun vid of our family snow boarding and skiing at Sierra at Tahoe. When we arrived we were greeted by the music of the Cal Berkeley Marching Band. They played several time through out the day and could be easily heard up on the slopes. They ROCKED and turned the entire resort into a huge dance party! It was so awesome.

Congratulations to Julia Mancuso on her two silver medals in the Olympic Games!!!
Julia Mancuso came home to a fantastic “Welcome Home” shindig at Northstar Ski Resort in Lake Tahoe. The festivities honoring Julia Mancuso, the Two Time Silver Medalist in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, kicked off on Sunday February 27, 2010 and never slowed down throughout the day. Northstar was the funkiest trip we’ve taken this season and definitely the best time we’ve enjoyed this year and the after-hours festivities kept going into the evening hours for non-stop enjoyment. Northstar supplied all the merriment with live music, outstanding food, spirits, entertainment for the whole family and a wonderful awards show, there was never a dull moment at Northstar’s Olympic toast to Julia Mancuso.
I’ve got to give credit where credit is due and Northstar put on one heck of a great time for Julia Mancuso and her fans of all ages. Live bands (Jo Mama & Colorshow) played all day in the Village Stage at Northstar for anxious Mancuso fans waiting for their opportunity to congratulate the Ladies’ Downhill and Super Combined Silver medalist. Just watching Julia rock out with “Colorshow” was pretty dang cool (in a sexy sort of way) and feeling the energy of her numerous fans sway to the music was epic. The live music wasn’t all that Northstar supplied, the Apex Bungy Trampoline and Ice Skating Rink in the center of the Village at Northstar was additional fun for the whole family. Simply put, there was more than enough fun and entertainment throughout the day at Northstar Ski Resort during the Julia Mancuso Welcome Home Festival.
Northstar really did a wonderful job of opening up their hearts to Julia and her many fans and from the moment we arrived at the Julia Mancuso Festival up to the moment we left we had the time of our lives, being able to see Olympic Medalist Mancuso and having the good fortune of Northstar’s plush entertainment was more than we could have ever hoped for. They really rolled out the red carpet for everyone, even for canine companions. Yes, Northstar is definitely a “Dog-Friendly” world class resort. And it was pretty dang sweet having my 11 year old Border Collie “Cody” getting to meet Lake Tahoe Hero Julia Mancuso (Cody is currently trading in his Frisbee for some new K2s).
The awards ceremony was highlighted by watching Lake Tahoe local hero and two time silver medalist Julia Mancuso proudly hoist her Olympic medals into the warm Tahoe air, it was enough to take your breath away, and an experience I will not soon forget. So, the festival has come and gone, but come on out and explore awesome slopes right now at Northstar. The snow pack is terrific and we’re currently expecting more snowfall this weekend. Enjoy Northstar’s Terrain Parks and Cross Country, Telemark skiing as well as Boarding the Pipes and Downhill skiing. Oh, and the Kid’s Adventure Parks will keep ‘em busy having fun all day long. Thank you again Northstar and thank you Julia Mancuso for your hard work and world class athleticism in bringing home Two Silver Medals!!!
