Snowboarding Activities
Written by ski on June 30, 2008 – 3:30 pm -
If you are considering doing some snowboarding activities then I simply must tell you about the kind snow boarding activities that I have tried in the past, and the kind of activities that I intend to try In the future. The fact is that when I first tried snow boarding I had only been skiing a couple of times, so I was really a newbie that was looking to have a little bit of fun and experience some snowboarding activities for the first time.
Me and my friends all decided to go out their and see what kind of fun we were able to have on the slopes, and we sure did have heaps of fun and in fact far more than I would ever have imagined. We went out their, and because we had a rough idea how to ski we were far more cocky than we should have been but that did not stop us from having the most fun in our lives. The slope was very quiet, which just made it so much better. They way you move on a snowboard just makes you feel so much more in control, however you feel like you are taking more risk. When you are skiing it is just that little bit too comfortable at times, but the fact is that you never actually notice it until you give it a try. It really does not surprise me that people are choosing to give up skiing and are taking up snow boarding in its place, lets be honest you cant actually jump on ski’s. So OK, it is possible but you could hardly suggest that they are custom built for doing Ollie’s. That is why I have to tell, you that when I done my first jump on a snowboard and successfully landed it, I was sure to give it a try again, in the future.
Me and my friends all decided that the most fun thing that we could do was have a race down the slope, and this what we done. I was actually very nervous, as I was very anxious to win, but I knew if the worst came to the worst then I could always say that I tried my best, and trying my best is certainly what I done. Over the next minutes as we went done one of the most daring runs on one of our first times I was sure that I was going to win. That is not to say that I was, I could have hit a tree, or took a wrong turn and in the end I done the later. I lost and I was gutted, but the exhilaration just meant that I wanted to do more. I proposed doing it again, and everybody was up for it. It was the fact that when we done the first run, we had managed to grab some “Air-time” and I can assure you if you think that is good on ski’s you have experienced nothing yet.
The main problem with doing this run was that we were failing to abide by the rules of the slope with aggressive turning and twisting. The last run my friend Alan actually pushed Collin into a tree for a laugh. Although most people would not see this as being fun, it was the kind of think that happened based on excitement and I have to tell you that this snow boarding day has to be one the best days of sport that I have ever experienced, and even when I go skiing and snow boarding these days I often think back to the stuff we got up to that day on the slopes. I have to say that skiing just doesn’t seem to compare to snow boarding and it really does not surprise me to see people migrating from snow boarding to skiing at all. The thing is though we really should not compare them, I suppose they are both good in their own way.

Anti Theft Jet Ski Trailer
Written by ski on June 30, 2008 – 3:14 am -
Jet ski doesn’t run on land. That is why, in order for you to bring it to the waters where it belongs, you should have a tool to transport it. You must need a jet ski trailer. But transporting you jet ski is one thing. Protecting it from thieves is another. And the first line of defense you can do in order to avoid it is to make sure that your trailer is safe and secured.
If you cannot transport your jet ski without a trailer, no one could. So it is important to keep your trailer secured as well.
Here’s how:
Strap your jet ski to the trailer securely. This is important because if the jet ski is secured to the trailer, any attempt to remove it will not work. Make sure that you provide the thief a major task. In other words, you give the thief too much work that can cause too much noise and draws too much attention so that they will be forced to find an easier prey.
If staying at the garage, make sure that the trailer could not be moved in any way possible. Remember that a truck and haul your trailer easily so make sure that there is no possibility that that trailer can be moved. You can consider removing the wheels of the trailer during long off-season period.
Never in any circumstance leave the jet ski and jet ski trailer unattended while outside. Though it can be secured on a certain location, it would be very advisable to keep an eye on them at all times. If you are staying at a hotel, have it parked securely or have a hotel attendant to man your jet ski. Keep it covered so that the risk is lessened. If parked on an open space, install a trailer anti-theft wheel lock so that no one can move your trailer while you are away.
Make sure you invest on a good chain. You can chain it secured during the day or dock it to an immovable place.
A waterproof battery disconnect switch could prevent theft from staring your jet ski. You can purchase one and you can assure yourself that no one can ever start your jet ski.
With a little price to pay for the stuff you need to buy and time you need to spend, you can spare one of your priced possessions from going away from you.

How To Travel With Your Sports Equipment With The New Rules Since 911
Written by ski on June 30, 2008 – 12:36 am -
If you are what some may consider to be a rabid sports fan then you may be trying to work sports into your next vacation. If you are planning on enjoying a game of basketball or football, it is more than likely that you might want to bring along some stuff with you. Did you ever know that there are restrictions to what you can bring, especially since 911? If you are trying to plan on bringing stuff like sporting equipment with you, you should be ready for what the rules are for what you can bring.
Golf is an activity that many travelers like to participate in and many golfers enjoy playing on different courses they find when they travel. If you are trying to travel with your set of golf clubs, you will more than likely need to check them as baggage. All airlines now days have a ban on golf clubs being allowed on the plane. Due to what a set of clubs costs, you might want to leave them at home or get proper protection. If you are going to a golf resort or traveling to another great location, there is a great possibility that you will most likely be able to rent a set of clubs to use.
In addition to golf many people enjoy playing baseball. Like a set of clubs, bats are banned on the airplanes as well for obvious reasons. If you going to try and enjoy a game of baseball, on your next time off, you will most likely want to take necessary pre cautions to getting secure protection for your equipment . Even though bats are banned on planes, there are no rules of other items, many to be cleats, baseballs, tees and many others. For your own concern, you may want to protect these items in the same bag or bags as your other gear.
Oh and of course if you are planning on going on a hunting trip, on your own free time, you will always need to keep your gear in checked baggage. All guns, bows and the items that go along with them are not allowed on the planes at any time. If you try and go through security with these items you may be caught and or arrested or wait further questioning.
Other sporting gear that is illegal on board an aircraft may be hockey sticks/pucks pool cues, skis/ski poles and many others. Again, if you are worried about the safety of your gear then take measurable means to secure it. As stated above, there is some gear that you just can’t bring, but other rules are not so clear. You need to be aware of what you can bring and what you can’t bring on an air plane before your arrival at the airport.

8 Ways to Make the Most of Your Trailer Hitch
Written by ski on June 29, 2008 – 3:34 pm -
So, you have a receiver hitch. Have you ever used it? Do you know how handy your trailer hitch can be, even if you don’t have a trailer to haul? What do you need to get the most out of your trailer hitch?
First. let’s talk about the receiver. It’s a square hole located below your bumper. it’s called a receiver because it “receives” the stuff you stick into it. Makes sense, right?
Your receiver is either 1.25 or 2 inches square. The smaller receivers are either class I or class II hitches depending on how much weight they can handle. The 2 inch receivers are class III, or IV; as the class number increases so do the weight limits. For example, a class I hitch can tow up to 2000 lbs. and handle up to 200 lbs. downward pressure on the actual hitch (that’s called tongue weight), while a class IV hitch can tow up to 10,000 lbs. and handle 1,000 to 1,200 lbs. tongue weight.
Equally important to the trailer hitch’s weight specifications are the towing specs for your vehicle. You can find these in your owner’s manual and they should always be respected. Overloading your trailer hitch will not only risk damage to your vehicle, but it will also make steering and braking more difficult, making you a danger on the road.
So, what can you do with your receiver hitch? Obviously, you can tow a trailer. If it falls under the weight specs for your hitch and vehicle, you’ll just need a ball mount and a hitch ball. The ball mount is the square metal shaft that slides into the receiver. The hitch ball mounts onto the ball mount and sticks out behind your vehicle when properly installed. You can tow cargo trailers, camping trailers, utility trailers, just about anything that you want.
Beyond towing, you can use your receiver hitch for cargo carriers, bike racks, boat carriers, ATV ramps, ski racks, hitch mounted grills, hitch steps, and to display your personality with a custom hitch cover.
The bike racks, cargo carriers, and ski racks are all generally mounted to a shaft that slides into your receiver. These racks offer great convenience as they allow you to safely carry bulky and/or dirty items outside your car. Many of them fold for easier access to the rear of your vehicle and to require less storage space. Sports racks and cargo carriers are a great use for your receiver hitch.
You can also get bed extenders and hitch mounted boat racks that allow you to put one end of a ladder or canoe on top of your pickup cab and support the other end with a rack that mounts to your hitch. Similarly, hitch mounted ramp supports are available to allow you to attach ramps to the back of your pickup so you can drive what ever you need to right into the bed without fear of damaging the tailgate.
A hitch mounted step is a great way to access the rear of your vehicle; they are simple to install and fold to be out of the way when you’re not using them. They often double as hitch covers which keep your receiver clean.
If you’re a tailgater, you will love a hitch mounted grill. Forget hauling the mess of a charcoal grill or dealing with the small rack on a portable grill; with a hitch mounted grill you can bring the comforts of your back patio with you–it’s easy and awesome. Even if you don’t go with a hitch grill, you’ll want a tailgater hitch cover. It displays the logo of your favorite team and has a built in bottle opener for your convenience.
Whatever trailer accessories you choose, make sure you get a hitch lock to keep your stuff safe. This handy little lock replaces the tow pin you use to keep the ball mount in your receiver hitch and will give you peace of mind as you make the most of your trailer hitch.

Fun Winter Toys
Written by ski on June 28, 2008 – 6:45 pm -
I remember waiting patiently for the first snow fall. It never really mattered how cold it was outside, I just wanted to play in the snow. Be it was tobogganing, sledding, building a snowman or having a snowball fight with the other children in the neighborhood, I just wanted to be outside!
If you have fond memories like I do of playing outside in the winter when you were younger and want to share this fun with your children, there are quite a few fun, but affordable winter toys you may want to take a look at. Let’s review a few fun, safe winter toys.
Love to toboggan? Do you remember trying to drag that heavy toboggan up the hill? Boy I do! It was almost too much work to try to get up that hill for a 30 second ride â but what a ride it was. Today, there is a lightweight toboggan that your kids (and you) are sure to love. The lightweight Blizzard inflatable toboggan is easy for kids to carry, but manufactured of thick, heavy vinyl for durability. Winter fun for 1 or 2 people or kids with a price less than $20.
Snow Tubes are an awesome winter snow toy and they cost less than $8! Light enough for kids to carry, but durable enough to hold up to plenty of down hill slides, snow tubes are definitely a toy to take a look at for winter fun.
How about a winter toy that does double duty as a summer toy also? Almost two toys for the price of one â now thatâs smart shopping. The Ski Storm inflatable Jet Ski is a great ride-on sled for a kid that does double duty as a pool toy in the summer. This toy is made quite well of durable vinyl and patented Weathertek for year-round fun and priced less than $25.
Snow sleds are another fun winter toy â but they can also be costly. If youâre not looking to spend $100 or more on a snow sled, the Summit snow sled may be just what youâre looking for. Heavy duty with hand grips, this inflatable snow sled will have you and your children flying down the hills. Cost is less than $20.
Are your kids ready to try a snow board, but youâre not ready for them to do so? The inflatable rocket ranger snow board is a great way for them to learn how to snow board. This snow board is made of sturdy vinyl with 2 built on boot straps, can hold up to 120 pounds and is recommended for kids 6 â 12 years old. With a price tag less than $10, this is a great way to determine if snow boarding is really what your children want to do.
Outdoor toys that are affordable but fun are the way to go this winter season. Donât forget the accessories that make your life easier â and safer. Snowboarders should wear protective gear such as helmets and todayâs air pumps are affordable and wonât leave you gasping for air.

Gatlinburg Tennessee A Great Vacation Stop For Anyone of Any Age
Written by ski on June 28, 2008 – 4:34 am -
Gatlinburg Tennessee the name alone brings back warm memories that I enjoy from traveling with my family. Many people travel to Gatlinburg on a yearly basis to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding mountains and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Some people do not even realize that such beauty can exist let alone be so close that it is within a days journey to most of the East Coast of America. With the Great Smoky Mountains National Park so close to Gatlinburg many people pass through Gatlinburg for just a drive to get into the park or totally by-pass the town on the scenic by-pass. Now if you do end up stopping in Gatlinburg while on vacation one thing that you will want to do is take a ride on the very relaxing ski lift. Now if you have ever wanted to have one of the most breathtaking views possible you will enjoy taking a ride up the Gatlinburg ski lift. Even if you are scared of heights you will want to try to bear through this venture because it is such a lovely view and over look of the town. The best part is if you are scared of heights that you are only normally about ten feet off of the ground which is tolerable for most people. You might even be asking if the cost of the parking combined with the cost of getting a ride on the Gatlinburg ski lift is even worth the cost, but I can tell you that it is. The view that you will gain from the top of the Gatlinburg ski lift is well worth the cost because it is such a breathtaking view. Now if you do have children that get antsy or impatient then the fun enjoyable ride that can be had from the Gatlinburg ski lift might not work for them. Gatlinburg Tennessee a great place to travel to is also a great place to relax in. If you are looking for one of the best places in my opinion to have a great relaxing vacation you will absolutely love Gatlinburg. I know that one of the best ways to relax when you are on your Gatlinburg vacation is to take a ride up the Gatlinburg ski lift. Then while you are taking your Gatlinburg ski lift ride you can enjoy the beauty that makes this one of the best vacation spots possible for anyone to enjoy.

What Licenses Are Required For Jet Skis and Wave Runners
Written by ski on June 27, 2008 – 10:56 pm -
Most large yachts carry ‘personal water-craft’ (jet skis and wave riders) and many captains and managers are very concerned about their safety and the legal consequences of an accident. All maritime administrations in the Mediterranean require operators to have a certificate. Strangely, in the United Kingdom this is not the legal requirement (although local bye-laws now often insist on rider certification and insurance companies will no longer insure unqualified riders). This has led some managers and crew to assume that they do not therefore need to worry about training for Personal Water Craft operators since many yachts carry a British flag. In cautioning you against such a view I would draw your attention to two issues.

1. National Requirements for Licenses
It is not at all clear that a Jet Ski can be considered as a ‘tender’ to a large British yacht and therefore exempt from the need for qualifications. A ‘tender’ is a ship’s boat that works between the mother ship and the shore taking personnel and stores; it is not a recreational craft. It is not even clear in UK law at the moment if a jet ski can even be considered as a ‘vessel’ in terms of maritime law. In our view, if a Coastal state’s laws require PWC drivers to have a permit then a yacht is in contravention of those laws if they allow unqualified people (crew or charter guests) to drive them. We believe that this also applies to normal boats, such as RIBs and Wave Runners, when used for recreational purposes.
2. Duty of Care

The European Union Directive on ‘Duty of Care’ has been enacted in the laws of all EU member states. This places a very strict obligation upon the managers of all organisations to ensure that all work is carried out in as safe a manner as possible. Accidents, injuries and fatalities caused by a failure in this duty of care can have very serious civil and criminal consequences. The UK may not require licenses to operate small boats but the official governing body for recreational boating in the UK, the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), has created very clear and exacting standards for the operation of recreational boats and for personal watercraft in particular. The RYA has even gone to the effort of creating operating rules specifically for the use of PWCs from large yachts. For yachts to ignore such clearly expressed and targeted guidance would surely be regarded as reckless by a court of law in the aftermath of an accident.
THE SOLUTION.
At Blue Water several of our instructors have been accredited as ‘Trainers’ by the RYA. This is the highest rank of powerboat instructor and allows us not only to train crew for basic and advanced power boat and PWC licenses but also to train other instructors. This means that you can have your own instructors on board your yacht. They will be able to legally certify charter guests to operate PWCs. The yacht will have to be inspected to make sure that it complies with all of the safety standards to be an RYA school but this can be arranged easily with locally-based inspectors. Jet Ski instructor courses are run regularly and can be done on board the yacht or in our classrooms in Antibes, Palma and Fort Lauderdale.
