Borovets Skiing Resort
Written by ski on April 30, 2008 – 11:20 am -
The aim of the present article is to introduce skiing conditions in Borovets in general, give some tips for readers who are seeking the perfect ski vacation and last but not least give you a hint on the criteria which a ski resort needs to possess. Yet, there are mandatory requirements which a ski holiday needs to meet and all we are interested in them in order to customise the winter vacation in a better way. Depending on the type of traveller, their budget, experience and acquired knowledge of a resort, there are a number of criteria which define the skiing holiday in a different one.
Borovets skiing resort cannot be described as an Alpine ski resort. However, there one can experience the thrills and spills of having a great holiday and visiting an ultimate Bulgariaâs ski resort.
Borovets is the oldest skiing resort in Bulgaria, but new development has been implemented so far, especially as a part of the Super Borovets project. Borovets is a fantastic winter venue for the young and of course young at heart. We canât miss to mention that it is suitable for family ski holiday as excellent ski tuition is provided. Borovets unlike Bansko winter resort boasts quiet atmosphere, enough space for entertainment and holidaying and plenty of amusing activities apart from skiing. The major advantage of Borovets is that it is not overcrowded and noisy, so it is a great place for having a relaxing winter vacation.
It is important to note that the statement âyou get what you have paid forâ is not quite true when it comes to having a holiday in Borovets, because certainly there are a number of factors which may add this âextra valueâ that you may be looking for. Nobody should neglect the fact that the level of satisfaction does rely on oneâs predilections, requirements, expectations and fortunate or less fortunate circumstances.
Indeed Borovets skiing resort is low on glitz, but it is rather high on great skiing and the number of skiers who keep coming year after year do prove that Borovets is an attractive ski destination.
Well it may be true that the very center of the skiing universe in Bulgaria could be in
Bansko or perhaps Pamporovo, the sunniest winter resort, but skihounds and snowboarders who love adrenalin adventures will look for slopes a little more on the quiet side, so they will find more than they imagined at Borovets winter resort. A skiing vacation may be rather exhilarating, especially if ski slopes are not overcrowded and you do not waste time queuing for the ski lift!
We do agree that Borovets may not be on a par with Piedmont in Italy or other
major European ski resorts, the Borovets ski area is still a prime candidate for a cheap and enjoyable skiing vacation. Besides currently there are many Hot Deals which offer an extended skiing holiday /there are more popular as âpay less, stay moreâ/. As many tourists have discovered, Borovets may not offer the best skiing vacation that they have ever experienced, but still rewarding skiing adventures and many happy moments. Well if the glitz is a part of your criteria for a decent ski vacation, then the area of Borovets may not be the best holiday choice for you. However, there you will find no lift lines, well-groomed ski tracks, new facilities, modern snow cannons, trendy pubs, various entertainment options, cozy accommodation and excellent ski tuition, and  if these vital elements are more important to you, then by all means you should give Borovets skiing resort a chance!
What are your requirements for a decent/perfect ski holiday? Donât hesitate to share your experience and opinions!

Board Sports Stay in Vogue
Written by ski on April 29, 2008 – 12:13 am -
The Youth of today are quickly influenced by new trends. The desire to move with the times, keep up with their peers and perhaps disassociate themselves from old fashioned activities, means that any popular mainstream leisure activity has a limited lifecycle. That may be true for many fads which have come and gone in recent years. But some activities tend to return again and again, if only in a slightly different form.
It’s true that football is unlikely to lose its appeal. The simplicity of an activity that requires the minimum of equipment, yet combines physical activity with competition is obvious and boys are enthused by the game the world over. Cycling is another activity that is able to retain its position in the hearts and minds of young people. Being more than an economic means of transport, the simple bicycle has its own fashion lifecycles that see different forms of bikes becoming popular then being replaced by new derivatives. Straightforward racers were superseded by trendy Chopper bikes in the 70’s. Next came the era of the mountain bike, which brought off-road riding to the masses at a relatively low cost. Mountain bikes are still favoured in sporting circles but the physical effort to get the best from them is perhaps too much for many. Now the simpler BMX bicycle is the item of choice for boys looking for a cool and trendy means of transport. They allow skills and tricks to be performed while retaining a degree of customisation potential that allows young people to express their individuality.
Board riding, in all its various forms is another activity with staying power. For the last 50 years or more, riding a board powered by gravity, wave or wind has existed all over the world in different styles and has bounced back into the spotlight over and over again as new varieties of board riding are explored.
Surfing was perhaps the first globally popular board riding sport. Regions with suitable wave conditions and a warm enough climate soon became surfing hotspots. There were a number of these locations around the world but they were limited, so those without access to the required sea conditions invented a new version of the sport. Skateboarding was born and rapidly swept the world as the new activity of choice for young people. People made hand-built ramps and jumps in their gardens while commercial skateparks were developed. In the same way that BMX bikes are popular today, skateboarding provided all the same crucial ingredients. Movement, speed, skill, tricks, fashion, individuality and a certain degree of “cool” for the top performers were all present. Skateboarding still exists today in most parts of the world, but participation levels are lower now. There’s no doubt that wheeled board riding will remain a popular youth activity that is sure to have its periods of fame again and again.
Snow provides another environment that suits a different derivative of board riding. Snowboarding was created by combining surfing with skiing to bring the same ingredients to the mountain slopes that attracted board riders to the sea and skateparks in the past. The sport quickly replaced other snow sports for young people, who found snowboarding more exciting, less mainstream and more individual than traditional skiing. Again speed, skill, fashion and peer popularity are all present and the sport still continues to grow as new venues are created. Not everyone has access to snow covered mountains and that flourishing level of popularity has now made it viable for investment in artificial snowboarding environments to be made. All over the world indoor snow centres are being built using modern technology to create real snow indoors. These centres exist in many European countries already, particularly in the UK and The Netherlands where mountains suitable for snowboarding are virtually non-existent. The slopes in these indoors centres are getting larger, longer and able to include additional features that are attractive to snowboarders. The indoor environments are also better able to bring complementary attractions of music and other social add-ons. Many indoors snow centres include caf?nd restaurant areas in addition to retail outlets. They are fast becoming complete social hubs for young people wherever they are built. In the UK the latest one to open is on the outskirts of London and brings indoor snowboarding within the reach of the 8 million population of the UK capital city.
Other forms of board riding now include wind powered derivatives such as windsurfing, kitesurfing, both on land and water. Wave boarding, where a rider is pulled along behind a speed boat is another form, but requires expensive facilities and is likely to remain a minority form of board riding. There are other types of youth activity that come and go in different styles but board riding, in all its forms, now seems firmly established for many years to come.

Oregon – A Great Place to Visit
Written by ski on April 27, 2008 – 11:24 pm -
Oregon is a fantastic travel destination. Great cities such as Portland, Eugene, Ashland, and Bend are worth a visit, but the best places to visit are its landscapes and coastline. Oregon’s Pacific coast is not to be missed. It has many beautiful beaches, green hillsides, and light houses, but also fantastic coastal sand dunes, sea caves, and rock formations.
Oregon has multiple volcanoes over 10,000 feet and outstanding skiing. It is home to over a dozen ski resorts including Mt. Bachelor, which is a beautiful strata volcano. The view of Mount Hood, Oregon’s tallest mountain, from the Timberline Lodge is inspiring. Its most famous volcano imploded thousands of years ago, creating Crater Lake, one of the world’s most beautiful and deepest lakes. Crater Lake National Park is a destination that deservedly attracts visitors from all over the world.
If you enjoy fishing, rafting, or just taking in outstanding scenery Oregon is home to such great rivers as the Umpqua, the Willamette, the Deschutes, the Snake, the John Day, the Crooked, and of course, the Columbia, one of the world’s largest rivers. The Columbia Gorge, which bisects the Cascade Range and forms the border between Oregon and Washington, has beautiful waterfalls, vistas, and wind surfing. Hells Canyon, which is in northeast Oregon and separates Oregon from Idaho, is the deepest canyon in North America, deeper than even the Grand Canyon.
Eastern Oregon is much drier than the western side of the state but is still home to great destinations such as the Wallowa Mountains, Smith Rock State Park, and the Painted Hills – John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.

Why I Started Snowboarding Classes
Written by ski on April 27, 2008 – 8:23 pm -
Let me tell you all about the time that I went to snowboarding classes and why I absolutely think that you should go out there and do the same. When you learn something new it provides and excellent sense of well being and can result in many hours of fun and enjoyment that can come as a result of the new skill that you have attained.
When I was only 16 I really liked watching winter sports on television and although it may sound stupid, it was actually sledging that drove me to want to learn a winter sport. I always liked sledging and I even went sledging when it wasn’t snowing. You see, where I live it is absolutely impossible to go sledging 11 months of the year, and if we are lucky enough to have as much as a month of snow then I am always sure to take advantage of it and go out their and sledge away! That is why, coupled with my love for watching snowboarding and sledging on television, that I decided that I would go out their and learn how to snowboard.
So you are probably wondering why I made the choice of snowboarding over skiing as my choice for the winter sport that I would try. The main reason for this was because I have a lot of friends that do snowboarding but absolutely none that do skiing done at the local ski slope. Although they do snowboarding the slope caters for both and I suppose the decision really did come down to me. Anyway, in the end I decided to go out their and choose snowboarding and I would be lying if I said my friends were my only influence in my decision to choose the board over the ski’s. You see I do not know if everyone will know what I am talking about but I feel that a snowboard just appears to be so much more responsive than ski’s. Do you know what I mean?
At our local ski slope there is only 100M of run that is around 300 feet if you convert it. In that period on ski’s what can you actually do? If it was some kind of complicated slalom then that would be different, but just going down a hill on ski’s to me seems slightly boring compared to on a snowboard. A snowboard appears to be more of a white knuckle ride. That is why I decided to choose snowboarding, but don’t get me wrong I still think that skiing looks fun, and as I now go down to the skiing slope every week or so I have actually started to do skiing some times for a bit of a change. You see, once I learned how to snow board I had some transferable skills, such as an ability to use the lift, how to handle speed, when to slow down etc. That is why I am glad that I learned how to snowboard first. If I had skied first, then I would probably have found it a lot more difficult to pick up snowboarding second. Anyway I went to snowboarding lessons and really enjoyed myself, I am not as good, nor as dedicated as some of my friends but I still really enjoy myself and that is what it is all about.

Water Skiing and Wake Boarding Equipments
Written by ski on April 27, 2008 – 4:43 pm -
Water sports are attaining fame everywhere across the sphere these days. Places which have beaches have always viewed fame and trend of water sports. The most accepted and favoured water sports are Wake boarding and Water skiing. To be able to take pleasure in these two sports one must to have all the required acquaintance about the sport, safety precautions and about the wake boarding and water skiing equipments.
with reference to Wake boarding:
In wake boarding the boarder has the test to be carried and balance himself/herself on the wakeboard at the same time as riding on the water surface. The wakeboard is tied after a boat with the help of a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(’/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://cobraskiboard.com.au”>Wakeboard Bindings. The boat pulls you along and you have to uphold your balance and plan your wakeboard accordingly.
Wake boarding is really not an original idea, but it was formulated by joining three other sport methods, that of water skiing, snow boarding and surfing. The wakeboard is pulled along behind a boat. Normally the boat’s speed is preserved at 15-25 miles per hour, depending upon the age and abilities of the wake boarder, and also on number of other conditions, like rider’s weight, height, water conditions, etc.
To be able to do wake boarding resourcefully, one must have a superior quality a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(’/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://cobraskiboard.com.au”>wakeboard and bindings. A superior quality wakeboard accepts you to manoeuvre efficiently and professionally on the water surface and aids in maintaining your balance. A superior quality wakeboard is of perfect width. A very broad whiteboard makes it difficult to contrive the board as it gets heavy and a very thin Wakeboard makes it tricky to uphold equilibrium and can easily upturn. Also, a superior quality binding is of identical consequence as it ensures your safety by keeping you steadily bound to the pulling boat.
with reference to Water Skiing:
It is extremely very essential to be a skilled skier before you take to deep waters. The rate of water skiing is quite elevated which can be as high as 50 miles per hour. A mere stumble or unevenness can lead to strict results like drenching, stern face and knee injuries. Good abilities and appropriate
A life jacket is of greatest significance as at a high speed when you lose your equilibrium, it is very tricky to come above the water surface yourself, which can escort to drowning. Use a good quality fibre glass skis that are strong and hold your burden.
Choose the length of the skis depending upon expertise and style of skiing. It is always advisable to use long and broad skis in the beginning. This assists you in better choreography and hold. From the three kinds of skis, Slalom Pairs, Combination Pairs and Trick Skis, go for mixture skis as they are simplest to use and offer better control.
Use a good quality rope that is stretchy in nature, which offers good control while altering speeds.
Water sports are adventurous but can also turn lethal if not done with good familiarity, skills, preventions and right {equipments| de

Learning X-country Skiing. It’s Great Fun and Heart Healthy
Written by ski on April 27, 2008 – 4:03 pm -
Some years ago my wife, Irma, and I decided we were going to take up cross country skiing. Some of our friends were doing it so we thought, why not us. Not being the guy who takes advice readily, I went out and purchased cheap wooden skis, bindings and boots. You would think that having read many hundreds of advice articles on purchasing outdoor equipment I would have learned something over the years. Not exactly. I find it easier to give advice rather than to learn from others.
Letâs start with the skis.
There are basically two materials of which skis are made. Wood or fiberglass. There are also two types of skis. Wax and non wax. Some people refer to non wax as fish-scale skis.
Not all wooden skis are poor quality. Some of the best wooden ski makers in the world are in Norway. They are nice and wide and are great for breaking trail. These skis must be waxed thus another problem comes into play.
Fiberglass skis come in waxable and non waxable. Waxable fiberglass skis are used by racers who need speed and grip control for every temperature gradient. The wax is applied to the bottom of the ski and is used to push against the snow and is not used to glide. Almost every recreational skier today uses fiberglass skis with fish-scale bottoms.
Now back to our cheap wooden skis. Irma and I were trying to teach ourselves to ski. We think it is the best method of learning x-country-skiing.
We were attempting to cross a creek. A narrow wooden plank had been placed there for that purpose but was too narrow for the skis. Irma crossed over and I threw one of her skis over and it broke completely in two pieces.
Next trip, the bail holding the ski-boot to the ski flipped out and disappeared into two feet of snow never to be seen again. We were coming to the conclusion that the cheap road was the wrong road. I then purchased a pair of those top quality Norwegian wooden skis. They worked beautifully. Well, that is, until I did it again. What is that expression, “the older we get, the dumber we get.”
This time I tried to break out a large chunk of snow with the back of my ski. We needed something to stuff in a hole in our shelter to shut out the wind. Then we could boil some water for tea during a cross country ski trip. My good wooden ski snapped off an inch behind my boot binding. Not very smart.
Finally we purchased fiberglass skis with fish-scales and good bindings. We then set out to learn to ski properly. We taught ourselves.
Because we didnât have the luxury of groomed trails we had a problem making a 180 degree turn. We would come to a dead end area with a fence barring the way. Keeping our balance while turning one long ski at a time was tough to do. The proper way to turn while at a dead stop was to balance on the left ski while lifting the right ski and laying it down in the opposite direction and maintaining your balance, bringing the left ski around to parallel with the right.
We soon found some groomed trails to practice our skills. Place your skis in the tracks and push off. Itâs only a matter of keeping your balance. That will come with time. Where the going gets tough is when you encounter a hill. Going up you must herring bone. You place your ski out from your body at an angle and bring the other ski out at the opposite angle and do this maneuver repeatedly until you reach the top.
The toughest challenge to master is descending a steep hill with a turn at the bottom. Track setters generally leave an area from the middle of the hill to the bottom without a track. This allows you to step around the turn in little steps. Almost like ice skating or roller blading. Try to keep the majority of your weight on the inside ski.
Learning x-country-skiing is great aerobic exercise for your heart and will keep you in a wonderful frame of mind as you roam the country-side.
